Ace Slash Privacy Policy
Effective
The short version.
- Ace Slash has no account, no ads, no in-app purchases and no chat.
- While you play, the game sends gameplay events, such as "level started" or "level won", to our analytics service, PostHog. Each event carries an ID for your device.
- We use this only to understand how the game is played and to make it better.
- You can turn this off at any time with the "Share usage data" switch in the game's Settings. When it is off, the game sends no analytics events at all.
- We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
1. Who we are
Ace Slash is made by SKENE ("we", "us"). SKENE decides how the data described here is used.
Contact: support@skene.ws
SKENE's Privacy Officer is the person in charge of protecting personal information, including for Canada and Quebec. You can reach the Privacy Officer at support@skene.ws.
2. What the game sends, and why
The game sends a small record each time something happens in play. It sends it over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to PostHog.
- Device ID
- On iPhone and iPad, the "identifier for vendor" that iOS gives to apps from the same developer on your device. On Android, an MD5 hash of the Android ID, a code that Android gives each app developer on your device. Neither is the advertising ID.
- Settings shows the first 8 characters of it after "Device ID". Tap that line to copy the whole ID.
- Why: to count players and to tell that two events came from the same device, for example to see whether players come back the next day.
- Gameplay events
- The main screen opened, Play tapped, the intro ended or was skipped, a tutorial step done, a level started, a wave cleared, a level won or lost, the hand-name display switched on or off, and the "Share usage data" switch turned back on.
- Why: to see where players get stuck and which levels are too hard or too easy.
- Event details
- Level, chapter and stage number, the monster race, the wave, lives left, turns, discards used, number of relics, time spent on the level, hits on weak or resistant monsters, the tutorial step, the game language, and how many seconds of the intro played.
- Why: the same as above.
- App details
- The app version, the number of days since you first opened the game, whether this is a test build, and your group in our notification test ("on" or "off").
- Why: to compare versions and test groups.
- Notification events
- Whether we showed you the reminder question, your answer, what your phone said when asked for permission, which reminder was scheduled and how many hours ahead, and opening the game from a reminder.
- Why: to learn whether reminders help players or annoy them.
- Network data
- PostHog receives your IP address when the game connects, as any internet service does. Our PostHog project is set to discard IP addresses, so they are not stored. PostHog may first use the IP address to estimate an approximate location (country, region and city) and keep that with the events.
- Why: it comes with the connection. We do not use it to identify you.
The full list, with the names used in the data
Events: main_screen_view, play_tap, intro_end, tutorial_step, level_start, wave_complete, level_complete, level_fail, hand_callout_toggle, analytics_on, notif_prompt_shown, notif_prompt_answer, notif_os_result, notif_scheduled, app_open_from_notif.
Sent with every event: distinct_id (the device ID), app_version, day (days since first open), notif_group (notification test group), is_debug (test build or not).
Event details: level, chapter, stage, race, waves, wave, lives_left, turns, relics, discards_used, duration_sec, weak_hits, resist_hits, step, lang, skipped, seconds, enabled, answer, result, type, delay_h.
What we do not collect. Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, advertising ID (IDFA or Google advertising ID), payment details or messages. The game does not ask for any of them.
3. What stays on your device
The game saves some things on your phone only. They are never sent to us:
- your progress (current level) and the date you first opened the game
- settings: sound, language, hand names on or off, and whether "Share usage data" is on
- tutorial progress and reminder settings
- the hours you usually start playing (the last 7 sessions), used only to time reminders
- a random install code, used only to put your device in a notification test group. The group name is sent. The code is not.
Deleting the game removes this data from your device.
4. Notifications
Ace Slash uses local notifications only. Your phone schedules them. We run no push server and receive no push token.
- Some players never see the reminder question. This is part of a test.
- The game asks after you win the first level. The system permission prompt appears only if you tap Yes.
- At most one reminder a day, never between 22:00 and 08:00 your time. Reminders stop after 3 are ignored in a row.
- You can turn reminders off with the Alerts switch in the game's rulebook or in your phone's settings.
5. Our analytics provider: PostHog
PostHog, Inc. (2261 Market Street #4008, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA, privacy@posthog.com) processes the analytics data on our behalf. It acts as our service provider (processor) under a data processing agreement. It may use the data only to provide its service to us, and it must protect the data at least as well as this policy describes.
We use PostHog Cloud EU. The data is stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. If you live in the United States, Canada (including Quebec) or Korea, this means your data is stored outside your country. PostHog's own privacy policy is at posthog.com/privacy.
No other company receives data from the game.
6. How long we keep data
- Analytics events: up to 24 months after they are collected. Then we delete them.
- Data on your device: until you delete the game.
- Emails you send us: as long as we need to answer you, and at most 12 months after the conversation ends.
7. Your choices and rights
Stopping collection
Open Settings (the gear on the main screen) and turn off "Share usage data". It is on by default. When it is off, the game sends no analytics events at all, and nothing is sent to tell us you turned it off. When you turn it back on, the game sends one event, analytics_on, with your level, and then events resume. Deleting the game also stops all collection.
Turning the switch off does not delete what was already sent. To have that deleted, use the request below.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask what data we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Email support@skene.ws. We answer within 30 days.
There is no account, so we can only find your data by its device ID. Settings shows the first 8 characters of it after "Device ID", and tapping that line copies the whole ID. Please include that ID when you email support@skene.ws to ask for access or deletion, so we can find your data. Without it we may not be able to match your request to your data. If we cannot, we will tell you. Your data is still deleted when the period in section 6 ends. On iPhone and iPad, deleting every SKENE app from your device resets the ID, so new data is not linked to older data.
United States, including California
We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. You can use the rights above. We will not treat you differently for using them.
Canada, including Quebec
You can access and correct your information and withdraw your consent. In Quebec you can also ask for your data in a structured, commonly used format. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information (cai.gouv.qc.ca).
Korea
The Korean version of this policy gives the details Korean law asks for.
8. Children
Ace Slash is not made for children under 13, or under 14 in Korea. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child's data reached us, email support@skene.ws and we will delete what we can match.
9. No ads, no tracking, no sale
The game has no ads and no advertising SDK. It does not read the advertising ID. We do not combine game data with data from other companies, and we do not give it to data brokers.
10. Security
Data travels over HTTPS. Our analytics project discards IP addresses. Only the people who work on the game can open the analytics data.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data already collected, we will say so in the game's release notes before it takes effect.
12. Contact
SKENE, support@skene.ws
This policy: aceslash.skene.ws/privacy. The game's Settings also has a "Privacy Policy" button that opens it.
